The summer season offers us wonderful weather outside, but what can we do to improve our comfort inside our homes? Here are some tips that will help you get the most out of summer and help save some money on your upcoming electric bill!

Tip 1) Clean The Area Surrounding Your Unit

First and foremost, it is highly advised to periodically check your outside condensing unit. We want to ensure that there is nothing stuck in or around the unit, for example, leaves, branches, debris, etc. You want to be proactive with this because items like these can potentially cause damage to your equipment (especially during the autumn season). A good rule of thumb is to have an open space 2 feet around the unit.

Tip 2) Use A Programmable Thermostat

Using a programmable thermostat can go a long way, especially during the Summer season. A programmable thermostat prevents your unit from constantly running during times when you aren’t home or aren’t using it. Just set a desirable schedule, and watch the savings accumulate on your energy bill. It’s as easy as that! Not sold yet? A programmable thermostat can also inform you when a filter replacement is needed or notify you if there are any issues with your system.

  Tip 3) Utilize Windows

During the summer season windows can be our friend and our enemy, so be sure to utilize them properly. If you have multiple windows, you may have already noticed that when summer penetrates the mirror, the temperature in the room increases tremendously. Therefore, your air conditioner has to work even harder during already hot days. Use good window blinds, this will help prevent heat build-up and save you money on your next energy bill!

Tip 4) Filters, Filters and Filters

The best way you can extend the life of your unit is to regularly replace filters. This will ensure good airflow throughout the house and unit itself, as well as greatly reduce dust and allergens! We advise replacing the filter every 2-3 months, and if you have pets every 1-2 months. For those who want to get the most out of filtering, electrostatic filters are a great and affordable option! Electrostatic filters are able to clump dust particles together by electronically charging them which lets more dust get trapped and filtered.
