Your HVAC system is like a car. We know that in order to prolong a car's life, regular maintenance is a must – check
all components and diagnose any underlying issues. Your heating and cooling units are no different. With regular
maintenance performance, you can ensure each unit is functioning properly throughout the season.
Furnace tune-ups include:
● Checking the heat exchanger for signs of damage or corrosion
● Examining and cleaning the blower, removing any debris
● Inspecting the vent system and air intake grilles, removing any blockages
● Checking the blower motor and testing its amp draw
● Examining the belts for any signs of damage or cracks
● Inspecting the electrical connections, tightening them and/or replacing damaged wiring as needed
● Checking the burner and flame sensor
● Inspecting the thermostat and calibrating it as needed
● Checking the air filter, cleaning it, and replacing it as needed
● Checking and testing the system’s safety controls and startup cycle
AC tune-ups include:
● Cleaning dust, debris, and other materials that may be affecting system efficiency
● Replacing air filters
● Refilling refrigerant as needed
● Fixing any small problems before they escalate
● Ensuring key components are lubricated and working properly
Our HVAC maintenance is done twice a year – typically throughout the spring and fall months. But here at Duct
Professor Heating and Cooling, we know that it is difficult to keep track of information such as the last time you had
your unit serviced.
We offer a great membership option that includes those routine yearly tune-ups, membership discounts, as well as
priority scheduling to remind our members when their units are due for service.
In the meantime, here are a few things you can do to maintain your furnace and AC to make sure
everything is working properly and according to manufacturer specifications:
1. One of the most important things you can do is to regularly replace filters in your furnace. This will make
sure you are getting the most airflow to your furnace and will prevent it from overheating
2. Replace the humidifier filter, so many people are even aware that their humidifier has a filter and it needs
regular maintenance if you don’t want to breathe in corroded particles and mold. Doing that will prevent health
issues and improve air quality tremendously.
3. Regularly inspecting the furnace for abnormal operation is important, which includes checking for leaks and
any abnormal noises, and ensuring that the humidifier damper is set in the right position. All of those things are very
important to do and can save you money one day.
4. Ductwork plays a critical role in your furnace’s operation because its job is to serve air throughout your
home. Air leaks, dust, and even mold are some problems that can arise in the ductwork. So it is important to
inspect and maintain your furnace’s ductwork if you want the best performance.
5. Test your furnace’s thermostat for proper operation. If you have a multi-speed fan, make sure that all of
your fan speeds work. Make sure that any valves or dampers that you have are functioning properly as well. Use a
portable temperature sensor to check that your thermostat is reading the correct temperature. Your thermostat
should read about the same temperature as the temperature sensor.
