The reason for this is that many regularly leave their AC or heating system continually running throughout the day, even when they are not home. - Turning your thermostat down 7°-10°F for eight hours a day could make a great difference. Whether you’re just sleeping or away from home those eight hours could save you up to 10% a year on your energy bill.
- During summer, it is recommended to keep your home at the warmest temperature you could withstand while you’re away and to set your AC thermostat to 78°F (26°C) when home to get cooled. The reason for this is the smaller the difference between the outside temperature and indoor the lower your cooling bill is.
- In the winter, it’s advised to keep your thermostat set to 68°F while you’re home and set it lower when you’re asleep or away. This will also allow you to save money on your heating bill, the reason again being the smaller the difference between the outside temperature and indoor the lower the heating bill will be. This will also allow you to not have any discomfort since it will automatically set to your preferred temperature when you wake up or arrive home.
